ABB i-bus® NCT (Newron Commissioning Tool) is a bundle consisting of the KNX engineering tool MOOVnGROUP, plus ABB and Busch-Jaeger KNX device templates, which offer a standard set of applications for office buildings. MOOVnGROUP is a graphical commissioning tool for ETS. It provides a reinvented new workflow to setup a KNX project. As graphical tool it offers a flexible and user friendly interface on basis of a building map. MOOVnGROUP is the ideal tool for commercial -, office buildings, hospitals, schools and hotels with building automation functions and the need for flexible room automation. MOOVnGROUP handles any device of any manufacturer as soon as it is available in ETS 4. For easy commissioning MOOVnGROUP works on basis of zone concept. A zone may represent an office, a hotel room, hospital room, a corridor, and so on. Once a zone template is defined, it can easily be copied from one room to the next, to the next, and so on. With MOOVnGROUP choose your building layout, place the objects on the map, draw a zone including objects and all is done: devices are created in ETS, parameters are set, and group addresses are applied and connected. In combination with the additionally available ABB doGATE the KNX project can be automatically downloaded into the doGATE. Your selected group addresses are automatically mapped to BACnet, OPC and oBIX or will be monitored as trends. With MOOVnGROUP you never reinvent the wheel, because you can reuse all templates: the more you integrate the more template you get and less work needs to be done. Working with template secures your installation, because you cannot make manual errors. In case of final change, just modify the template and apply to the complete project. Some details: The Spell checker can make use of many freely available dictionaries in lots of languages e.g. from the OpenOffice and Mozilla projects, plus user dictionaries for additional words. The naming conventions can be defined by combining building blocks like "alternative", "concatenation", "list of allowed names", "list of names from project", "pattern" etc. to a rule. The Datapoint type assignment has access to an online database with information currently about approx. 1000 application programs (continuously growing).

Electrical installation Import EI Import generates an ETS5 project from a CSV list of actuators and circuits. The list can easily be created using Excel or a text editor. The project produced contains all the necessary group addresses, the building structure and the actuators. It can be further processed with the ETS5 or EIplan5.

ETS allows a device to be unloaded only when the programming button on the device is also pressed. This prevents the unloading of a Individual Address when the device is no longer physically accessible (e.g. after mounting it in a suspended ceiling). This would mean that no new Individual Address could be assigned because to do this, the programming button should be pressed. In the special case of Training Centres, mass unloading after completion of a course is a desired use case so that the installation can be restored to the initial condition. The Griesser GPA (Griesser Protocol Analyzer) app can decode, record and save KNX bus telegrams of the type 6-byte Griesser object. The GPA app works as a supplement to the Bus or Group Monitor integrated in the ETS. The Griesser GPA app must be launched separately from the Bus or Group Monitor and simultaneously records all KNX telegrams. As it does so, the Griesser object telegrams are recorded in decoded form. This App can be installed independently from ETS. So no problem to monitor at one site and to continue on another or to enjoy the weekend without any worries. Re-use what you created before In practice, configuring KNX devices can be very time-consuming. If you need devices with particular configurations more than once, it may be useful to have them somewhere available for further use afterwards. With the ETS App "My Product Templates" such ready-made devices can be added to a favorites list. Also KNX devices used in all (or almost all) projects can be handled in the same way. They are then also available for other projects - like from the manufacturer catalog - but then fully pre-configured. Users who repeatedly integrate similar functions can save themselves a lot of time and effort with this ETS App.
NETx BMS App by NETxAutomation Software GmbH
To import the configuration of a KNX project into a management application like an OPC server, the ETS offers an export function called "Export OPC". This export functionality provides only basic information about the KNX installation. The NETx BMS App is a user-friendly way to import the whole KNX project and its meta-information into the NETx BMS Server or the NETx KNX OPC Server. The output of this ETS App is an enhanced export file that contains the used KNX Group Addresses, the deployed KNXnet/IP routers and interfaces, and the full ETS project structure including the network topology (areas, lines, devices, and Group Objects) as well as the building and trade view. In addition, the App detects the configured IP addresses of the KNXnet/IP routers and interfaces. Based on the topology of the KNX project, the App automatically assigns the KNX Group Addresses to the routers and interfaces that are later on used for accessing them. Thus, a manual, time-consuming and error-prone assignment of the KNX Group Addresses to the KNXnet/IP routers and interfaces is not necessary anymore. Using the NETx BMS App, the whole KNX project including the well-known ETS view can be imported into the NETx BMS Server or NETx KNX OPC Server in a fast and intuitive way.

Due to the success of KNX, also the range of available KNX products is extending. The applications that need to loaded into KNX devices, can be downloaded from the individual KNX member company websites. This task a such can be very cumbersome. With the ETS App "Online KNX Product Catalog" this situation has changed, the required product catalogs can now be retrieved from within ETS4. The offered product catalogs can differ by manufacturer, language and availability per country. It is no longer necessary to download complete product catalogs. This ETS App is especially interesting for beginners and regular users.
Project Compare by KNX Association
In case of doubt, compare the installation with the ETS project, which ETS project is the latest? What should not happen, can in practice unfortunately happen. If a KNX project was edited because a particular function has been optimized, doubts can arise. Rather than trying and guessing, use the ETS App “Project Compare”. This allows the comparison of individual devices from the installation with the available data in the corresponding ETS project. In this way the current state as in the installation can be compared with the expected state as in the ETS project. Dissimilarities in device configurations will be shown, the result can also serve as evidence in case a third party has tampered with the installation.

Who made changes in the project? When a KNX project is finished, the installation company will usually handover the ETS project to the customer. Which implies that any third party can change configuration parameters afterwards. When this leads to a malfunction, the system integrator has of course every right to decline warranty. The system integrator had however so far no way to proof that a third party caused the malfunction, this situation is now rectified thanks to the ETS App "Project Tracing". This feature is activated via a password, thereafter ETS automatically lists all possible changes made for projects, all in chronological order. This App can also serve to monitor the progress of projects under construction.
Reconstruction by IT Gesellschaft für Informationstechnik mbH
The Reconstruction tool can be used to read out devices in the installation and then create a new ETS project or update an existing project. You may also compare the data from the installation against an ETS project. This allows to work on projects where the ETS database has been lost or is out of date. This will also work for installations which were created with a previous version of ETS. These items can be reconstructed: topology, devices with individual address, application program, parameter settings and group object flags, priority and assigned group addresses. You need bus access and same product data which were used to program the devices. Building or trade structure as well as name and description texts of areas, lines, devices and group addresses will not be reconstructed because they were not programmed into the device. Note: Devices with plug-ins can only be read out / reconstructed, if supported by the manufacturer of the plug-ins. In case of doubt please contact the manufacturer or our support. Exchange Devices, but keep their configurations! One of the benefits of using KNX electrical installations, is their flexibility and the possibility to realize cost-effective enhancements. Because it usually only concerns parametrization. And even this can now - at least partly – be optimized. This is thanks to the ETS App "Replace Product", which replaces KNX devices while keeping their parameter settings. If one exchanges e.g. a four-fold actuator with an eight-fold actuator, the parameters of the first four channels are automatically configured. This is possible for devices with similar functionality, regardless of the manufacturer. Even when devices need to be repaired, users benefit from this ETS App.

In practical work the installer of a KNX device can fix the label to the device in the installation plan. So later on the ETS expert can program the KNX device without pressing the programming button. Therefore the KNX serial number is labeled as bar-code, it is possible to use a bar-code scanner.

Split & Merge by KNX Association
Involve colleagues for KNX projects! Large KNX projects KNX ask for teamwork. But how to organize the interface between the different parts of the project? The situation where several people simultaneously edit a KNX installation may, e.g. for address assignment or central function configuration, lead to inconsistencies. Using the ETS App "Split & Merge", guarantees smooth cooperation for such situations. The advantage is that you can split a previously defined project into two, three or more parts. Several employees can configure them independently and merge again after completion of the entire project. Thanks to teamwork, the processing time for enhanced projects can be reduced.
