1. News from KNX Standard

News from KNX Standard

First edition of the updated KNX Cookbook
This cookbook is set up as ‘Volume 2’ of the KNX Specifications and its purpose is to provide development help for KNX newcomers. It gives concrete and practical help in order to start the development process of KNX certified devices, based on the currently existing KNX standardized solutions as offered by a number of our members. The KNX cookbook is available via our FTP server. At least one scientific partner: KHK Belgium, has already been using it with success.

New HVAC easy mode channels
In the most recent KNX Technical Board voting cycle, the work of a co-operation between KNX manufacturers active in the HVAC domain was put to vote as Application Note AN138. This extension to the KNX specifications will allow developing a full-fledged KNX regulated central heating system, including hot water production, influencing heat/cool production depending on the valve positions in individual rooms and taking into account systems like heat pumps and solar panels. The solution will contribute significantly to the energy efficiency of homes and buildings,  makes use of the new KNX flexible E-Mode concept (see previous Newsletter, thus no need for a PC tool for set-up) and is ideal for realization on KNX RF.

Prioritized Scene Control
In the same voting cycle, the Application Note 131 was put to vote. This Application Note describes mechanisms for the realization of powerful load management inside homes and buildings depending on received tariff information from the meter or other parameters (e.g. time, weather, …).  By using the Prioritized scene control data point, a central management unit can step by step manipulate linked receivers to reduce their consumption by switching off their outputs, manipulating their setpoint values or any other action.
