Order & Licensing for KNX Tools

General

  1. Install ETS on each PC you want to use the tool on (see Installation)
  2. Start ETS, run the licensing tool and send the license request to KNX Association (see Ordering)
  3. KNX Association will send you via e-mail (see Payment):
    1. After ordering: the 30-day key (.lic file, for PC dependent version only) as well as a dispatch note/proforma invoice, inviting you to pay the appropriate amount corresponding to your order.
    2. After payment: the final invoice and>the final key. The dongle (in case of a PC independent version) will be sent>by post.
  4. Unlock the requested KNX tool with the 30-day key or the permanent key (see Licensing).

Installation

The first thing to do is to install ETS on your PC. For that you have two possibilities:

  1. Installation from CD-ROM

    You can request your free ETS3 CD-ROM simply by clicking this link (or email to sales(at)knx.org)  After reception of your CD you simply have to install ETS3.
  2. Download from the web site version ETS3

After installation either from CD or web, you simply have to follow the ordering procedure to request your key.

Ordering

General:

To allow KNX Association to send you a license key (with or without the dongle) to unlock your package, KNX Association needs the following information, which you have to send us in a license request:

 

1.      The KNX tool you wish to order and unlock

2.      Your reference information / personal or company details

3.      Your valid European VAT number if any

4.      In case of a PC dependent version: the “Host-ID” of the PC you want to use the KNX tool on

5.      In case of an upgrade version: your current (ETS1 or ETS2) license number

 

To prepare the license request proceed as follows:

 

1.     After installing ETS on the PC where you want to license it on, you simply have to start ETS. Be sure this is the PC you want to use the ETS licence on !

 

2.     When ETS is started, choose in the top menu EXTRAS the option LICENSING and you will get the following screen

 

 

3.     Select (click) the KNX tool you want to order

  • Note: at the bottom of this window, the “Host-ID” of the PC you are currently working on is shown

4.     Click on the button “Request License Key” to get to the following screen where you will have a form to fill-in. The package you have selected is already filled in.

 

 

5.     Carefully fill in all fields in this form with all your reference data.

  • Watch out for the following special fields:

     

  • Host-ID (for PC dependent only)

This ID (“Identifier”) identifies the PC on which the KNX tool must be unlocked for use.
The Host-ID of the PC you are working on is shown automatically. Be sure this is the PC you want to use the ETS licence on!

 

  •  License Number

Only fill in this field if you already possess an ETS license (ETS1, ETS2 or ETS3). Otherwise leave this field blank.


Your current ETS license number has the following numeric format:
                                                            xxx-xx-xxxxxxxx
If applicable KNX Association will use this reference to keep your customer file up to date and determine possible rebate conditions as well as further upgrades.

6.     Confirm your agreement to the License Agreement conditions and the VAT conditions (if applicable).

 

7.     Now you are ready to send your license request. This is the document which contains all the data you have just entered.

  • You can directly e-mail it to KNX Association by clicking the button “Email to KNX”.
  • Alternatively you can save the text locally in a separate file by clicking the button “Save locally”,You can print and fax later at your convenience to + 322 775 86 50

Payment

 

General:

  • Our business is international. Therefore we accept pre-payment only.
  • When you receive your temporary licence key (30-day key) you will receive a proforma invoice which you can pay when the product satisfies you.
  • For legal matters we cannot send an invoice before payment.
  • You will receive the final invoice after payment.
  • Payment must be made by bank transfer only.
  • If you do not have a valid European VAT number 21% VAT must be charged according to Belgian VAT law.
  • Outside Europe express sending: dongles sent outside <st1:place w:st="on">Europe</st1:place> have to be shipped express. Therefore an additional fee of 35 Euro will be charged (except for orders exceeding 5 dongles).
  1. After your request you will receive a proforma invoice as an invitation to pay.
  2. Before payment please check if your name, address, VAT number and ordered products are correct .
  3. Please pay the full amount indicated on the proforma invoice within 30 days.
  4. Do not forget to mention your order confirmation number as well as your customer number as reference on your payment.
  5. After KNX Association has received your payment according to this proforma invoice you will automatically receive your final invoice, your final key and (in case of a PC independent version) the dongle.
    1. Note (for the PC independent versión with dongle):
      1. The dongle will be sent by post. Therefore it takes more or less a week before you will receive it.
      2. You cannot start the licensing procedure before you receive the dongle.
  6. Please be sure to have installed the dongle driver before installing the dongle ! download driver (or www.knx.org/download)

Licensing

 

PC Dependent version (Host-ID)

 

When you have received the requested license key (.lic file) from KNX Association you are ready to unlock the tool

  • Note:
    This procedure is the same for a 30-day license key (before payment) and the final license key (after payment)


 

To unlock the KNX tool proceed as follows:

 

1.     Perform the following steps on the PC on which the KNX tool must be unlocked and used.

  • Note:
    This must be the same PC for which you have specified the host-ID on your license request


2.     Save the received license key (.lic file) anywhere on your hard disk, just remember where you have saved it! Start ETS and choose in the top menu EXTRAS the option LICENSING and you will get the following screen

 

 

 

 

3.     Select (click on) the appropriate KNX tool (identical to the one you have requested a license for) and click the button “Unlock Package” to get to the following   screen.

 

 

 

4.     Check if the “Activate from File” option is marked, then click on “Browse” in order to find the .lic file where you have saved it. When found, just open the file and you will come back to the screen above. Then click on “Unlock” and your ETS is now licensed and you should see, for instance in the case of ETS 3 Pro

 

 

 

PC Independent version (Dongle)

 

When you have received the requested final license key (.lic file) as well as the dongle from KNX Association you are ready to unlock the tool

 

To unlock the KNX tool proceed as follows:

 

1.    Perform the following steps on the PC on which the KNX tool must be unlocked and used.

  • Note:
    You have to repeat the following steps at any PC on which you want to use the PC independent version.


2.    Download the latest dongle driver and install it. You will find the driver here (or  in the web-site of KNX Association www.knx.org/download)

 

3.    When you have downloaded and installed the driver, you just have to insert the dongle in any USB port of your PC. Then, Windows will react and you must wait until Windows informs you that the equipment you are trying to install is ready to use.

 

4.     Save the license key (.lic file) anywhere on your hard disk, just remember where you have saved it! Start ETS and choose in the top menu EXTRAS the option LICENSING and you will get the following screen

 

 

 

5.     Select (click on) the appropriate KNX tool (identical to the one you have requested a license for) and click the button “Unlock Package” to get to the following screen.

 

 

 

6.     Check if the “Activate from File” option is marked, then click on “Browse” in order to find the .lic file where you have saved it. When found, just open the file and you will come back to the screen above. Then click on “Unlock” and your ETS is now licensed and you should see, for instance in the case of ETS 3 Pro.

 

 

Note:
Do not forget that, after licensing ETS, you always need to plug in the dongle in a USB port of your PC to use ETS ! Moreover ETS must always be started after plugging in the dongle. Without the dongle, your ETS will be in demo mode !
