29-05-2012 New apps make ETS4 even more versatile There are apps for iPhone, for smart phones, for tablet PCs – and now there are new KNX apps for the Engineering Tool Software ETS4. In principle, the ETS Professional is sufficient for users wishing to install and configure KNX systems. Just as for mobile phones, users may however wish additional functionality when applying KNX. As not all can be part of the ETS 4 basic functionality, ETS apps will soon be offered in the KNX online shop.Dutch.pdf »

18-04-2012 Glittering KNX Awards Ceremony 2012 attended by winners, nominees and more than 1,500 guests from 76 countries The 14 KNX Awards were handed out on 17 April in Frankfurt (Germany) at the world’s largest trade fair for intelligent buildings – light+building 2012. The KNX Awards are given to internationally outstanding home and building control projects based on the KNX standard. The grand awards ceremony was part of the world’s largest KNX event – the KNX TOP Event 2012 – attended by more than 1,500 guests from 76 different countries. To take into account the huge diversity of the various projects from around the world, three additional categories were created for this year’s awards: for the first time, separate KNX International Awards were presented for each of three different geographical areas – Europe, Asia, and Africa, America and Australia. In addition, in six categories, two companies were awarded first place, in recognition of the extraordinary originality of the projects entered in these categories. This year’s ceremony once again broke all previous records: twice as many KNX projects were entered as just two years ago, and this time from 43 different countries.English.pdf »

14-04-2012 KNX city – the sustainable city In Europe, and particularly in Germany, we are facing the so‐called energy turnaround. This refers to changes in the energy sector – moving from fossil fuel generation to primarily renewable energy generation. The key challenge of the energy turnaround is to ensure a steady supply of energy in spite of the fluctuating nature of renewable energy sources. Traditionally, energy supply has been adjusted to the demand; in future, it will also be necessary to adjust the demand or load to the fluctuating nature of energy generation. In future, many energy suppliers will offer time variable electricity rates in order to motivate customers to use electricity when cheap, and to not use it in case of peak demands, in order to implement indirect load management. KNX City addresses current challenges related to buildings, mobility, energy generation, infrastructure and communication, and provides appropriate KNX solutions.English.pdf »

22-08-2011 Generation KNX at WorldSkills 2011 in London Brussels/London - The popularity of conventional installation methods not using bus technology is set to decline in the near future. For this reason, it is very important that apprentices and those at the beginning of their careers are familiarised with bus technology and building control right from the start. KNX, as the only provider of a globally-standardised bus technology, is therefore proud to announce that the international WorldSkills competition will from this year’s competition in London onwards be based on KNX only.Chinese.pdf »

29-04-2011 KNX projects are persuasive all over the world with clear energy saving costs The global energy requirement is increasing sharply. In comparison, climate warning and scarce resources sound a note of caution about the economical use of energy. A substantial share – up to 40 percent of the primary energy – is allotted to the building use. The energy efficiency of buildings is therefore becoming a global requirement. This is a future-oriented challenge and opportunity for building system technology with KNX which has proven functionality for energy saving during 20 years in the marketplace.Italian.pdf »

24-01-2011 KNX scores with energy efficiency in Europe, Asia and the US BRUSSELS, 24th January, 2011: As KNX celebrates its 20th birthday, it is indisputably the world leader for home and building automation, thanks to its exceptional versatility and openness. In recent years, KNX has developed particularly strongly in terms of system properties, international standardisation, international prevalence, and product variety. In the context of integrated room automation incorporating audio & video control, lighting, shading, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, KNX ensures a high level of comfort and low energy costs (savings of up to 50%). At the same time, the use of KNX in residential construction – which represents a quantum leap in comfort and security compared to conventional electrical installations – has increased dramatically (+55%). Thanks to KNX IP, the scale and networking possibilities of KNX systems have also increased yet further. And with the user-friendly ETS4, the wide range of new KNX applications available, the new KNX specification 2.0, and a sharp increase in the number of KNX manufacturers, the scene is set for the continued above-average growth of KNX.English.pdf »

11-04-2010 KNX celebrates its 20th anniversary Brussels, 10 April 2010. KNX – this means 20 years as the worldwide standard for home and building control systems. On 5th of May 1990 15 renowned European manufacturers from the electrical industry founded the EIBA, the European Installation Bus Association. The idea was: making electrical installations with BUS technology ready to face the future. With the recognition of the KNX standard as the European standard EN50090 and as the world-wide building and home control standard ISO/IEC 14543, the decisive step had been taken towards world-wide application. And after two decades, the bus standard has not lost any energy. On the contrary: with the new ETS4, extended applications and increased internationalisation, KNX will continue its worldwide powerful growth. Dutch.pdf »

04-03-2009 KNX continues its global success story – Daikin (Japan) becomes the 150th KNX member The community of manufacturers and users of KNX technology is constantly expanding: in 2008, the worldwide standard for home and building control experienced very strong growth once again. Over the year, 45 new companies from 15 different countries joined KNX Association. By the end of the year, 148 manufacturing companies from 23 countries across the globe were members of the Association. The number of new ETS licences issued in 2008 once again grew more strongly than in 2007. In total, more than 22,000 ETS licences were sold in 84 countries. The manufacturer- and product-independent ETS tool is required for programming and commissioning KNX-certified products.PR20090310-DE.pdf »

29-01-2009 Audio and Video in Home Automation In the kitchen, pop-music is coming out of the speakers, in the bathroom an Italian aria is playing and a Dr. Seuss story can be heard in the kids’ room. After only a few clicks on the computer or touch-panel, the desired music/sound can be heard in each room. Intelligent building systems technology based on the KNX standard provides variable control of multimedia technology throughout the entire home. KNX manufacturers are developing solutions for so-called multi-room systems which are becoming increasingly simple and convenient - for both the user as well as the installer. At the fair “Integrated Systems Europe 2009 (ISE)” 13 KNX members are showing their own solutions for audio & video application in home automation. CEDIA (the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association) has teamed up with the KNX Association in a reciprocal membership agreement which will involve working more closely together, including the development of a series of joint training and awareness initiatives.ISE 2009 map.pdf »

08-12-2008 Superb prospects for bus-based Bus technology has become considerably better-established within the industry in recent years. Whereas in 2005, less than one in every two respondents (47%) foresaw a future for bus-based installation technology, in 2008 more than 82 percent of users predicted a great future for the technology. According to respondents, the benefits of bus-based installation technology are: increased comfort and convenience, greater flexibility, efficient energy management, and better building safety and security. For the third time running, there was a very strong consensus among respondents regarding the global standard for home and building control: KNX was the clear favourite. These statistics are taken from a newly-published international market survey1) compiled by South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences. The survey was conducted in April 2008 during “Light+Building”, the world’s largest trade fair for architecture and technology.Survey_German.pdf »
