FAQ

Are there any documents for ETS App Tools available?

You can always consult the ETS SDK help file that is available in your KNX Online shop account. Moreover, when you apply for being ETS App developer, you will receive a tutorial that explains in detail how to use the ETS App Validation Tool and make your ETS App available to the KNX Online shop.

Can a developer offer different versions of the same ETS App, only differing in the number of functions offered?

Yes, a developer can offer different versions of an ETS App: these will be treated as commercial repackaging of the same App, each one of them however charged with the repackaging and not the full validation fee.

How is ensured the use of an ETS App only by a single user?

An ETS App always requires a separate license enabling this (and only this) ETS App. Without a license, an ETS App can still be imported, but it cannot be executed.

Can a developer offer ETS App licenses only linked to Host-ID and not to ETS dongle?

Yes, but is not recommended by KNX as that can confuse the KNX Online shop customers.

Can a developer sell a time-limited license for an ETS App?

No, this function is not available in the KNX Online shop. All ETS Apps licenses do not have an expiration date. However, if the developer wants to distribute his ETS App for testing purposes, he can provide a time-limited test license created in his account in the KNX Online shop.

Is there a limitation on the number of ETS Apps a developer can upload in his KNX Online shop account?

No, a developer can upload as many ETS Apps as he wants in his KNX Online shop account.

What happens in case an ETS App has a critical bug, whereby the developer wants immediately to provide an updated version to his customers fixing this problem and cannot wait for a new validation?

In that case, the developer has to upload the new version of his ETS App, create a Test License and provide this to his customer(s). At the same time, he should apply for a new validation of the updated version: as soon as this ETS App is, validated he can provide it to his customer.

How is the support for ETS Apps treated?

The customers of an ETS App will always contact the KNX Association support team first, by opening a support ticket in their KNX Online shop account, under the menu item ‘My Support’. If KNX is certain that the support issue is not due to licensing matters, the support ticket will be forwarded to the KNX Online shop Support Queue of the developer, i.e. the ‘support contact’ that he has indicated under the ‘My Details’ section of its KNX Online shop account. Moreover, the KNX Online shop does not cater for the sale of support contracts. If the developer of an ETS App wants to offer this kind of service to his customers, this shall be handled outside the KNX Online shop.

Can an ETS App be validated, but not be available to the KNX Online shop?

When a version of an ETS App has been successfully validated (automatic and manual validation completed) is still not visible to any KNX Online shop customer. The developer has two options in his KNX Online Shop account. Either to keep it invisible (‘private’) for his own purposes (e.g. transfer the ETS App license only to members of his company or have presentation event for it), or to make it visible (‘public’) to any KNX Online shop customer.

Is a ‘Trial ETS App Developer License’ foreseen?

No, a trial version of the ETS App Developer’s license is not foreseen.
